The CEISTAD Library in Sabrosa hosted the device handover ceremony for the eGuard project, an initiative by Sabrosa Municipality and the GNR for vulnerable seniors.

On the morning of yesterday, October 8th, the Teleassistance and Monitoring system of the “eGuard Project” was delivered at the CEISTAD Library in Sabrosa. This initiative, a result of collaboration between the Municipality of Sabrosa and the National Republican Guard (GNR), is aimed at elderly individuals in situations of vulnerability and/or social isolation, with the goal of reinforcing their safety and autonomy, enabling them to remain in their homes.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Municipal Executive of Sabrosa, the Territorial Command of Vila Real of the GNR, including Colonel Feliciano Amaral and Lieutenant-Colonel Eduardo Lima, as well as Captain Philippe Azevedo, Sergeant Major Carlos Martins, agents from the Criminal Prevention and Community Policing Section of Peso da Régua, a representative from ADSI, the Education and Social Action Team of the Sabrosa Municipal Chamber, and the project beneficiaries.
The president of the Sabrosa Municipal Chamber, Helena Lapa, highlighted the project's importance as a "safeguard for the well-being of our most vulnerable and exposed citizens", thanking the GNR for the partnership. She also announced that the municipality plans to establish a Municipal Commission for Elderly Support in the near future.
During the afternoon, elements from the GNR and the social action team of the Sabrosa Municipal Chamber visited the homes of the 14 beneficiaries (residing in Chanceleiros, Abrecôvo, Vilarinho de São Romão, Paradelinha, Provesende, Sobrados, and São Lourenço de Ribapinhão) to configure and activate the devices on-site.
The eGuard project, which initially covers 13 households, is being implemented for the first time in the district of Vila Real. The Municipality of Sabrosa covers the expenses for the acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of the eGuard system, with a total investment of €9,360.00 (plus VAT) over 36 months, under a protocol with the GNR - Territorial Command of Vila Real.
