The city of Leiria dedicates November to initiatives raising awareness and preventing violence against women, actively involving secondary school students.

The program kicks off on November 4 with the artistic performance «Cruza as Pernas Como uma Rainha» (Cross Your Legs Like a Queen), by Associação Artística Nem Marias Nem Manéis. This initiative, running until November 10, is for students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades and offers a reflection on freedom and gender-based violence through art and puppetry. Each presentation will be followed by a dialogue mediated by a psychologist or victim support technician.
On November 25, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the school community will participate in the March for the End of Violence against Women. The event will traverse the streets of Leiria and other towns in the municipality, with students displaying posters they created, promoting respect, equality, and the fight against gender-based violence.
This march, part of a collective school project supported by the Plano Nacional das Artes (National Arts Plan), aims to engage young people in a community awareness action.
The program continues on November 26 and 27, at the Afonso Lopes Vieira Municipal Library, with the workshop «Poema Ensina a Cair» (Poem Teaches How to Fall), led by Raquel Marinho for students in the 3rd year of vocational training.
The overall project aims to raise young people's awareness of recognizing different forms of violence, deconstructing gender stereotypes, respecting consent, and the importance of seeking help safely. The initiative reinforces the role of education and artistic expression in promoting human rights and building healthy relationships.
Participation in all activities is free.
