The XXIV Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira hosts, on Saturday, October 17, the French artist ORLAN. The creator will revisit her own history with the reinterpretation of "Se vendre sur les marchés en petits morceaux", an action she starred in in 1977. The event is part of the "Open Day at the Museum" program, with free admission.
The performance, taking place at the Largo da Feira, will once again bring to the debate the body, representation, and the commodification of art, themes that established ORLAN as a pioneering figure in international contemporary art. Following the performance, between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, an open conversation with the artist will be held at the Cerveira Biennial Museum, with Portuguese translation, revisiting her career and the impact of her time in Portugal post-April 25, 1974. The work S’habiller de sa propre nudité, part of the Galeria Alvarez Collection, will also be on display.
The Biennial's program expands geographically with a cross-border performance cycle at the Centro Goianés, in Goián (Galiza). As part of the exhibition "¿De qué casa eres?", curated by Mafalda Santos and Manuel Santos Maia, three artists will present their works. The exhibition, on display at the Cerveira Biennial Museum until December 30, reflects on the concepts of belonging, exile, home, and memory.
The performance cycle in Galician territory begins at 6:30 PM (Portugal time) with South Korean artist Jiôn Kiim and the installation "Lugar para Chá". This will be followed, at 7:00 PM (8:00 PM in Spain), by the presentation of the new piece "In This Quiet Place, Dooset Daram", by the Portuguese-Iranian researcher and performer Rebecca Moradalizadeh. The program culminates at 8:00 PM (9:00 PM in Spain) with "FAUXSIMILE", a site-specific vocal and electronic performance by Ece Canlı.
