The commemorations for the Municipal Day for Equality, observed on October 24th, began on Friday, the 23rd, with various activities that align with the Municipality of Arcos de Valdevez's commitment to implementing the II Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination (PMIND) 2026-2029. This plan establishes the municipal lines of action for promoting equal opportunities, inclusion, and combating discrimination.
The initiatives continued on Monday and Tuesday, October 26th and 27th, with a visit from the Councillor for Education, Marlene Barros, to the council's kindergartens. Through the reading of the story “Meninos de Todas as Cores” (Children of All Colors), by Luísa Ducla Soares, values such as equality, diversity, respect, and acceptance of others were addressed in a playful manner adapted for children.
Crayons in different skin tones were also distributed, encouraging children to recognize and value human diversity, understanding that we are all different, yet equal in rights and dignity.
Awareness from childhood is crucial in this context for fostering more inclusive attitudes and developing a culture of respect for differences.
