The presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito has been identified in three municipalities in Alto Minho, as part of the REVIVE Program. The Public Health Unit reinforces prevention measures.

The presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito has been identified in three municipalities in Alto Minho: Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte de Lima, and Paredes de Coura. The detection of this species, responsible for the REVIVE Program – Vector Surveillance Network, does not mean that disease transmission is occurring in the region, according to the Alto Minho Public Health Unit.
Analyses carried out on captured mosquitoes have not identified pathogenic agents, and there is currently no evidence of disease transmission associated with this species in Alto Minho. Nevertheless, as a preventive measure, it is important to reinforce some precautions that help prevent the reproduction and spread of this mosquito, which primarily develops in small accumulations of stagnant water.
Everyone's collaboration is fundamental. It is recommended to empty, clean, or protect containers that may accumulate water, such as vases, saucers, buckets, feeders, tanks, and drums. It is also important to remove abandoned objects outdoors that can retain water, including tires, and to keep gutters, drains, and drainage systems clean and unobstructed.
Additionally, it is suggested to regularly change the water in containers that cannot be eliminated and to reinforce these precautions in gardens, cemeteries, municipal spaces and facilities, construction sites, and other locations where water may accumulate. Small gestures help prevent the proliferation of the mosquito and protect everyone's health.
The Municipality thanks the public for their cooperation.
