The Directorate-General for Consumer Affairs (DGC) has received a notification regarding the recall of products, including the Electric Assistance Motor for Kayaks/SUPs and its corresponding Electric Assistance Battery. These products were sold between November 1, 2022, and October 12, 2026. It has been detected that water infiltration inside the battery can cause severe overheating, posing a risk of spontaneous fire or even explosion.
The economic operator responsible requests that customers who have purchased these products discontinue their use. If any anomaly is detected, such as overheating or swelling, they should isolate the products outdoors or submerged in water.
Full details regarding this recall and the return of the products in question can be found on the following website: https://cdn.decathlon.pt/pdf/recall-L260388-electric-assistance-battery.pdf.
The DGC acts as the national Contact Point for the Safety Gate, the European Union's rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. This system aims to identify dangerous products across the 27 Member States and EFTA countries so that competent authorities can take action.
The DGC, as the National Contact Point, receives alerts about dangerous products issued through the Safety Gate system and forwards them to market surveillance authorities for potential measures, such as market withdrawal or prohibition of sale.
