“"This book tells not only the story of an institution, but that of the entire people of Coura. Because the life of the Firefighters has never been separate from the life of the municipality. It grew with it, suffered with it, rejoiced with it. It was present in great tragedies and in small daily emergencies. It accompanied entire generations, saw children born, supported families, protected homes, saved lives, mourned its dead, and celebrated its reunions."

The parish of S. Martinho de Coura, in Paredes de Coura, marks Euroregion Day this Saturday with the NORTEAR Festival, celebrating the union between Galicia and Northern Portugal, and the presentation of a book on the local firefighters' 100-year history.
The NORTEAR Festival: Euroregion Galicia–Northern Portugal takes place from 3:30 PM at the Old Primary School of S. Martinho de Coura. The event aims to celebrate the ties that unite the two cross-border regions through music, culture, and the sharing of ideas.
Promoted by the Xunta de Galicia and the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission, with the support of the Municipality of Paredes de Coura, the festival includes the talk ‘Culture: 18 questions/19 answers’, musical performances by João Diogo Leitão and MJ Peréz, and the project ‘Perfeitoimperfeito’ with dj Shake a Leg & dj SU.
Concurrently, at 5:00 PM in the Casa do Conhecimento, the book ‘Bombeiros de Paredes de Coura – 100 anos (1926 – 2026)’ will be presented. The work chronicles the institution's history and its deep connection with the municipality and its inhabitants over a century.
Tiago Cunha, Mayor of Paredes de Coura, who also authored the book's opening pages under the theme “As long as there is a siren,” highlights the importance of firefighters to the community.
