The Municipality of Gondomar marked Municipal Equality Day by presenting the Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2026-2029, appointing Counselors for Equality, and establishing the Team for Equality in Local Life.

The ceremony marked a new phase in promoting equality and non-discrimination in the municipality, reinforcing the council's commitment to public policies that value diversity, promote inclusion, and ensure participation opportunities for all citizens.
Aurora Vieira, Councilor for Citizenship, was appointed External Counselor for Equality, and Isabel Santos, Municipal Director of the Presidency, took on the role of Internal Counselor. The Team for Equality in Local Life will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of municipal measures in this area.
The Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2026-2029 sets out intervention priorities for the next four years, structured around three key pillars: inclusive governance, democracy and human rights; inclusive, accessible, and safe territory; and citizenship and participation. Areas of intervention include gender equality, violence prevention, combating racism, xenophobia, and age-based discrimination, defending the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals and people with disabilities, and promoting inclusive communication and measures to facilitate work-life balance.
The campaign “In Gondomar, professions have no gender” aims to deconstruct stereotypes associated with the world of work and raise awareness about the importance of equal opportunities in choosing and practicing professions. The IGUALD’arte project, themed “I participate!”, challenges students from the 3rd cycle of basic education to express, through artistic customization of cloth bags, how they can contribute to a more inclusive, participatory, and supportive community. The students' work will be part of a traveling exhibition.
