Sara Rodrigues, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences (FCNAUP) and researcher at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP), has been chosen by the Rector of U.Porto, Pedro Nuno Teixeira, to chair the University of Porto's Ethics Committee for the 2026-2030 term.

A graduate in Nutrition Sciences and holder of a PhD in Human Nutrition from U.Porto, Sara Rodrigues has been teaching at FCNAUP since 1998. Alongside her teaching duties, she has held various management and university representation roles. She is currently the director of the Master's in Community Nutrition and Public Health, Vice-President of the FCNAUP Representative Council, and a member of the faculty's Scientific Council.
In research, she focuses on nutrition and public health, particularly on assessing dietary habits and their determinants. Associated with ISPUP and EPIUnit since 2017, she has participated in several national and European projects, including the National Food and Physical Activity Survey (IAN-AF 2015-2016), and led the UPPER project, which examined the consumption of ultra-processed foods, nutritional profiles, and obesity in Portugal.
Sara Rodrigues's career is also strongly marked by her involvement in institutional ethics. As President of the FCNAUP Ethics Committee since 2019, she has been a member of the U.Porto Ethics Committee for over a decade, where she served as vice-president to José Meirinhos, whom she now succeeds.
The U.Porto Ethics Committee, established in 2008 by the Senate of the University of Porto, is a collegiate, multidisciplinary, and independent body. Its mission is to ensure and promote rigorous ethical standards in all academic activities of the University, covering its various units and all members of the academic community.
Divided into four multidisciplinary subcommittees (Life Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Technologies and Arts), the Committee provides support to the Ethics Committees of the Organic Units and addresses general matters. It is responsible for defining and applying the U.Porto Code of Ethics, a fundamental instrument for adopting and improving the institution's best pedagogical, scientific, and civic practices.
