The municipality of Baião has launched the "Baião Primeiros Passos" program, offering financial support of up to 1,200 euros per child born or adopted from 2026 onwards, through reimbursement of expenses incurred at local businesses.

The new municipal program "Baião Primeiros Passos" is now operational, replacing the previous "KitBebé_Baião". This initiative aims to support families in the municipality with an amount that can reach 1,200 euros per child, whether through birth or adoption, by reimbursing expenses made at Baião's commercial establishments.
The President of the Baião Municipal Chamber, Ana Raquel Azevedo, highlighted the fulfillment of a commitment made to the residents. "We have no time to lose, and that is why we work every day to transform our commitments into concrete responses for the people," she stated, emphasizing that the program was designed to address various challenges in the municipality, including stimulating the local economy.
The financial support translates into a direct investment in Baião's commerce, as the 1,200 euros must be spent at establishments within the municipality. "We want this support to also impact our economy. The 1,200 euros are spent in local commerce, and in this way, we are supporting our families and, at the same time, our merchants," concluded the mayor, stressing the intention for implemented measures to have an effective impact on people's lives.
Expense reimbursement is the mechanism for allocating the support, allowing multiple claims up to a limit of 1,200 euros per child. Each claim must include eligible invoices totaling at least 300 euros. Covered expenses include health, food, hygiene, childcare, furniture, and children's clothing and footwear, provided they are purchased from establishments located within the municipality.
The Councilor for Social Cohesion, Olívia Mendes, stressed the importance of ensuring that information about the program reaches all eligible families. Dissemination will occur at various points in the municipality, including health services, with the aim of reaching families during pregnancy and after childbirth.
"We want to ensure that no family eligible for this support misses out due to lack of awareness," explained Olívia Mendes. Information will be provided at health services and distributed throughout the municipality, ensuring that the application process, considered simple, is known to everyone.
Families with children born or adopted from January 1, 2026, who meet the regulatory conditions, including residing in the municipality of Baião for over a year, are eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted up to 365 days after the birth or adoption, with expenses incurred in the three months prior to birth also being admissible, and expenses made up to two years after the support is granted.
Applications can be submitted online via the official website of the Baião Municipal Chamber (cm-baiao.pt) or in person at the Family Support Office (GAF), located in the Municipal Services Extension Building in Campelo. Detailed information on access criteria, necessary documentation, eligible expenses, and procedures is available on the municipality's website.
