Applications are now open for the 2027 edition of the CaixaResearch Health Research Contest, promoted by Fundação 'la Caixa', with a deadline of November 18, 2026, at 14:00 CET. The initiative is supported by FCT, which commits to matching the investment allocated by Fundação 'la Caixa' to selected projects in Portugal.
The contest aims to support scientific excellence projects with potential societal impact, covering basic, clinical, or translational research. Projects must fall within thematic areas such as neurosciences, oncology, cardiovascular and associated metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, or enabling technologies applied to these areas.
Projects, with a maximum duration of three years, can be submitted in two modalities: individual projects, with funding up to 500,000 euros, submitted by a single research organization; and consortium projects, involving between two and five organizations, with support up to 1 million euros.
To assist in application preparation, Fundação 'la Caixa' has scheduled an online information session, in English, for October 7, 2026, at 11:00 CET, with mandatory registration.
Since 2018, the CaixaResearch contests have supported 92 projects involving Portuguese institutions, representing a total investment of approximately 66.3 million euros. Of these, 81 are led by national organizations and 11 have Portuguese participation coordinated by Spanish institutions.
