The municipality of Amadora celebrated today, October 31st, the allocation of 48 new apartments under a reduced-rent scheme, located in Cerrado da Mira, parish of Mina de Água. The ceremony was attended by Vítor Ferreira, President of the Amadora Municipal Chamber, and Patrícia Gonçalves Costa, Secretary of State for Housing.
The new housing development, comprising 46 T1 units and 2 T2 units, was financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and is part of Amadora's Local Housing Strategy, reinforcing the municipality's priority in promoting public municipal housing.
Characterized as controlled-cost housing, this construction marks the first implementation of the reduced-rent scheme in the municipality. It is aimed at residents or workers of the council, with rents calculated based on household income, ensuring that the effort rate does not exceed 35% of the average monthly income.
These 48 homes will house 56 people, with an average age of 37.3 years. The average gross salary of the tenants is €1,229, and the average monthly rent will be around €463.
Vítor Ferreira highlighted the project's importance in "giving these families the opportunity to build a future with more dignity and hope," emphasizing the quality, comfort, and innovation of the construction, with rents more affordable than the market.
Patrícia Gonçalves Costa congratulated the Amadora municipality for its work and effort, calling the handover of these homes "a quality solution" and a step towards "building more, faster, and better."
António Carlos Rodrigues, CEO of Casais, noted that Amadora is a pioneer in adopting this innovative construction system, making this the first worldwide affordable rental housing project of its kind.
Leandro Teixeira, CFO of IKEA, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, aligning with the company's vision of "making people's daily lives better" by combining construction innovation with quality, functional, and sustainable furniture solutions.
The development utilizes hybrid construction with wood, focusing on modularity and comfort, facilitating material reuse and the circular economy. The CREE construction system allows for significant reductions in waste, noise pollution, and carbon footprint, while also optimizing construction time.
The project, awarded to Grupo Casais for €6,879,398.37, had a construction period of 540 days. The model apartment was furnished with IKEA products through the Casais-IKEA partnership, with families receiving a discount voucher and financing offer.
This municipal project aims to foster a fairer and more cohesive Amadora, combining construction innovation, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion.
