Gouveia hosted, last Saturday, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, in a session focused on three fundamental areas for the development of the municipality and the Serra da Estrela region: accessibility, rail, and housing.
The session featured an intervention by the President of the Municipal Assembly of Gouveia, Carlos Peixoto, who highlighted the motion approved by that body regarding the need to implement the IC6 and IC7, infrastructures considered essential for improving accessibility and the territory's connection to the rest of the country.
The Municipal Mayor, Jorge Ferreira, reinforced the importance of investing in road and rail links, while also bringing the challenges of housing in the municipality to the debate. He particularly emphasized the need to expedite pending processes with the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), to allow progress on essential investments to meet the population's housing needs.
In his address, Minister Miguel Pinto Luz discussed ongoing projects and investments in infrastructure and mobility, also responding to questions raised about accessibility, rail, and housing.
The session also included a direct dialogue segment, titled “Gouveia Asks, the Minister Answers,” which allowed the public to debate the main challenges for the region's future with the Minister.
Improving accessibility, creating conditions to retain the population, and ensuring housing solutions are priorities that require joint work between local authorities and central government. Today's session was a first step towards strengthening this coordination and, above all, transforming shared concerns into concrete solutions for the territory.
