The event, titled “Together in Stroke Prevention,” was attended by 300 Portuguese and Spanish children and young people, aged between 6 and 12, during a friendly tournament organized by the Clube de Rugby de Évora. The aim was to disseminate warning signs, clarify risk factors, and reinforce the importance of healthy lifestyles in prevention of Stroke.
In Portugal, stroke is the leading cause of death and one of the main causes of adult disability. It is estimated that about 90% of cases are attributed to modifiable risk factors, and it is also a major cause of dementia. Cerebrovascular disease affects not only patients but also the family structure.
“"It is necessary to quickly recognize the first symptoms (mouth deviation, difficulty speaking, and arm weakness) and immediately call 112, as early initiation of treatment increases the chances of recovery and reduces the risk of sequelae."
Luísa Rebocho added that they count on everyone's involvement and collaboration, under the slogan “Stop Stroke, Join Us.”
