The municipal parking lot of Avenida Mendes Silva was the chosen location for the installation of a new kiosk for returning beverage containers. The decision considered the proximity to commercial and restaurant areas, ease of parking, and visibility of the facility, which will occupy an area of 53 m².
The kiosk will be available to the general public and to establishments in the HoReCa sector (hotel, restaurant, and café), also allowing for the simultaneous delivery of larger quantities of packaging. SDR Portugal will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the equipment, as well as for refunding deposits and forwarding collected packaging.
With this initiative, Coimbra becomes one of the first municipalities in the country to operate the Deposit and Refund System, strengthening the existing selective collection network and encouraging environmentally responsible behaviors.
The Municipality also proposes the exemption of public space occupation fees associated with the installation of the equipment. This measure is justified by the public interest of the kiosk, as a facility designed to facilitate the return of packaging and the operation of the Deposit and Refund System, contributing to the promotion of the circular economy.
