The Angra do Heroísmo City Council concluded the Angra 4 Patas event, which took place over four days, focusing on promoting animal welfare, responsible adoption, and the relationship between people and companion animals.
Held at the Multipurpose Pavilion of the Terceira Island Multipurpose Park, the event was a collaboration with various local associations, including the Azorean Association of Breeders of Barbado da Terceira Dogs, the Portuguese Cynology Club, the Association of Friends of Animals of Terceira Island (AAAIT), the Animal Protection Association – Recomeço, and the Animal Awareness, Sterilization, and Rescue Association (SER).
Throughout the four days of programming, visitors participated in talks on animal welfare and responsible adoption, attended dog training demonstrations, and accompanied walks with animals from the Official Companion Animal Collection Center of Terceira Island and participating associations, alongside exhibitions, contests, and cultural entertainment.
The program also included the 16th Monographic Exhibition of the Barbado da Terceira and the 7th and 8th National Dog Shows of Angra do Heroísmo. These events brought various breeds to the municipality, contributing to the promotion and recognition of the Barbado da Terceira dog, an autochthonous Azorean breed.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of responsible adoption, sterilization, electronic identification, and animal health care, highlighting the role of animal protection associations and breeders.
The Angra do Heroísmo City Council thanked all partner entities, participants, volunteers, and visitors for the success of the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to promoting animal welfare and building a more conscious and animal-friendly society.
