On the Day of the Port of Figueira da Foz, which also marked the 60th anniversary of the construction of the breakwaters, the Mayor called for clarification on the financial compensation owed by EDP to the municipality and urged the administration of the port of Figueira da Foz to tell "the whole story" of the Bioadvance process.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Figueira da Foz, Pedro Santana Lopes, members of the Municipal Executive, representatives of the port community, civil and military entities, and local authorities.
Pedro Santana Lopes addressed two issues considered fundamental for the future of the municipality: the financial compensation of approximately 20 million euros from EDP, related to the Lares Thermal Power Plant and the Lavos substation (2009-2025), and the Bioadvance process, installed in the port area.
The mayor deemed the silence surrounding the Bioadvance process unacceptable, questioning who brought the company to Figueira da Foz, who decided its location, and who authorized the operation, in a process involving around 30 million euros.
Pedro Santana Lopes also highlighted the State's investment of approximately 50 million euros in ongoing works in the coastal and port area, anticipating the growth of economic activity and the port's tourism potential.
Susana Pinho, president of the Port Community, emphasized the historical importance of the breakwaters, inaugurated in 1966, in establishing Figueira da Foz as an international trade port and a key element of the regional and national economy.
Teresa Cardoso, president of the Board of Directors of the Port of Figueira da Foz, underscored the infrastructure's role in economic and territorial development, reaffirming the commitment to the port's modernization and competitiveness.
