The award ceremony took place on October 26th, at the Casa da Música in Porto, with the award being presented by the Secretary of State Adjunct for Youth and Equality, Carla Rodrigues.
This is the second consecutive biennium that Estarreja has received the award, renewing the recognition first achieved in the 2024–2025 edition. Promoted by the CIG, within the framework of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination — Portugal + Igual, the award distinguishes municipalities that implement good practices in equality between women and men, citizenship, and non-discrimination.
In this 8th edition, out of 71 admitted municipalities, 57 were distinguished — 56 municipal councils and one parish council —, with 14 honorable mentions also being awarded.
The recognition is a result of the commitment made by the Municipality of Estarreja to building a fairer, more inclusive, and equitable community, through the Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination of Estarreja — 'In difference, everyone adds'.
This municipal instrument establishes objectives and measures aimed at eliminating stereotypes, preventing and combating different forms of discrimination and violence, promoting equal opportunities, and integrating these principles into the various areas of municipal intervention.
