The GNR and ERSE joined forces for the 'Senior Census 2026' operation in Sertã, Castelo Branco, to support elderly individuals in isolation and vulnerable circumstances.

For the fifth consecutive year, ERSE - Energy Services Regulatory Authority is collaborating with the 'Senior Census' initiative, carried out annually by the GNR - National Republican Guard. The aim is to provide support to the most vulnerable elderly members of the community. This year, the operation took place in Sertã, in the district of Castelo Branco.
The outreach initiative, which occurred on October 20, 2026, involved visiting elderly people living in isolation within the municipality of Sertã. According to GNR data, the municipality has identified approximately 220 elderly individuals living alone and in vulnerable circumstances.
The objective is to raise awareness among this more isolated group about self-protection measures and to reinforce their sense of security. Meanwhile, in the energy sector, ERSE provided advice on consumer rights regarding electricity and bottled gas, tips on saving energy, and safety precautions for using bottled gas.
To facilitate information sharing, an information pack containing advice and warnings from both organizations, along with their respective support contact details for queries and complaints, was distributed. The pack also included a card-shaped magnifying glass.
The GNR's 'Censos Sénior 2026' operation has been taking place nationwide since October 1, involving patrols and awareness activities targeting approximately 43,000 elderly individuals identified across the country.
ERSE has partnered with the GNR on this initiative since 2021, participating in information sessions and distributing leaflets to help improve energy literacy and protect older people from potential scams in the energy sector.
