This new space, resulting from a project awarded the Eva and Rudolph Arié Prize by the Portuguese Association of Palliative Care in 2025, addresses the team's recognized need for a location that allows for sensitive discussions and delicate decision-making with the required privacy and time.
The initiative has improved conditions for family conferences and the team's multidisciplinary work. The environment was thoughtfully designed to convey tranquility and closeness, incorporating nature-inspired visual elements to enhance comfort and dignity for patients.
The presentation ceremony was attended by members of the ULSBE Palliative Care team, the ULSBE Board of Directors, and Fátima Escrivães, the councilor responsible for Health at the Municipality of Esposende.
The ULSBE Palliative Care team supports patients and families in Barcelos and Esposende, both in hospital and at home. Their work focuses on alleviating suffering, preserving quality of life, and supporting those who care for the patient throughout their illness.
The ConVida Space significantly enhances the setting for a portion of this care, not eliminating the difficulty of certain conversations but offering a place where they can occur with greater privacy, comfort, and dignity.
