The Moura Municipal Council has invested approximately 40 thousand euros in acquiring new digitization equipment for the Municipal Historical Archive, aiming to improve document preservation and access to documentary heritage.

The new equipment, an A2+ format planetary scanner, has been developed for digitizing historical books, manuscripts, and maps, including large or fragile items. The automated system produces high-resolution images with optimized LED lighting and a spine compensation mechanism that prevents damage to original documents.
The total investment amounted to €39,864.30 and was co-financed by 85% by the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program, under the operation “Promotion of the Digitization of Municipal Services of the Moura Municipal Council”.
This acquisition strengthens the work of the Moura Municipal Historical Archive, a member of the Portuguese Network of Archives since 2020, which has an active project for describing, digitizing, and making its collection available online.
The new equipment is crucial for safeguarding local memory, by optimizing the technicians' work, reducing the handling of original documents, and enabling universal access for researchers and citizens.
