This distinction recognizes the commitment of municipalities to developing public policies that promote Gender Equality, inclusion, and non-discrimination. It is the second consecutive award for the Municipality, which was also recognized in the 2024–2025 biennium and received an Honorable Mention in 2022–2023.
The promotion of equal opportunities and the fight against discrimination are central areas of the municipal strategy, integrated into the municipality's operations and its relationship with the community. The Municipal Plan for Equality guides these local policies.
The strategy includes the prevention and combating of discrimination and violence against women, the valorization of human rights and respect, and the promotion of equal opportunities in professional life and civic participation, aiming for a more balanced participation between women and men.
The involvement of local institutions and partners is valued, as building a more egalitarian community requires collective action. The «Viver em Igualdade» Prize is promoted by the CIG within the framework of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2018–2030.
For the Municipality, the renewal of this distinction is a cause for satisfaction and an incentive to deepen public policies that promote a fairer, more inclusive, and participatory society, making equality a reality in the daily life of the municipality.
