The Municipal Services of Viana do Castelo (SMVC) are launching a pilot project in November across 16 parishes for the controlled disposal of bulky waste, aiming to prevent improper abandonment.

The initiative involves the rotating provision of industrial containers in all participating parishes. These containers will be placed in reserved access areas, provided by the respective Parish Councils or Unions, and will be clearly marked with information on the types of bulky waste that can be deposited.
Containers will be delivered at 08:00 on a pre-defined day and collected from 08:00 the following day. To ensure proper functioning, each Parish Council or Union will have a designated person to control disposal on the day of placement, preventing misuse.
The SMVC enforcement team will monitor the pilot project's execution, verifying compliance with usage conditions. The first phase includes the parishes of Carvoeiro, Barroselas, Vila Franca, Vila Fria, Vila de Punhe, Alvarães, São Romão de Neiva, Mazarefes, União das Freguesias de Geraz do Lima e Deão, Castelo do Neiva, Vila Nova de Anha, Freixieiro de Soutelo, União das Freguesias de Nogueira, Meixedo e Vilar de Murteda, Perre, Cardielos e Carreço.
Through this pilot project, SMVC aims to test and monitor a controlled bulky waste disposal model, strengthening collaboration with Parish Councils and Unions in municipal waste management. The cooperation of local authorities and responsible use by the public will be crucial for the initiative's success.
