The award is presented by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, following the decision of the Jury of the 8th Edition of the Living in Equality Award — Biennium 2026–2027. The prize acknowledges good practices in integrating citizenship, gender equality, and non-discrimination.
The award ceremony took place last Tuesday, October 26, at Casa da Música in Porto. The municipality's Councilor for Equality and Integration, Susana Pereira, was present and stated it was “a deserved recognition of the work we have been developing in Famalicão”.
The Famalicão municipality has implemented several measures to combat discrimination and violence, and to promote equal opportunities. Initiatives include a cooperation protocol with the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, the appointment of Municipal Counselors for Equality, and the creation of a Response Network for Interpersonal Violence.
“"It is important to continue working on promoting equal opportunities and building a community where everyone counts."
The Mayor, Mário Passos, highlighted the importance of the distinction, stating that the recognition serves as an incentive to continue the work in this area. In this edition, besides Vila Nova de Famalicão, 57 local authorities were recognized, including 56 municipal councils and one parish council.
