ProMuseus 2025 will fund 40 projects from museums integrated into the Portuguese Network of Museums (RPM), with a total investment of 1,008,760.29 euros. The competition, opened in the first quarter of 2026, received 90 applications from 77 museums across the country.
The growing focus of museums on promoting accessibility and strengthening their social and educational role is reflected in the applications, with inclusion and cultural mediation attracting the highest number of proposals. Selected projects also cover areas such as team training, heritage conservation, collection digitization, and cooperation between cultural institutions.
“"ProMuseus is an essential tool for equipping museums with the best conditions for access, participation, and cultural enjoyment. The program translates and renews the Government's commitment to the qualification of cultural institutions and the democratization of access to Culture throughout the national territory."
Among the funded initiatives are projects for training and networking, such as the one from the Museu das Flores, proposals for inclusion and accessibility, like "O Museu inclui" from the Museu do Oriente, and projects for cultural mediation and community participation, such as "Museu de Sesimbra: Mar, Memória e Comunidade" from the Museu Municipal de Sesimbra.
Established in 2006, ProMuseus is one of the main supports for museological activity in Portugal, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and managed by Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, E.P.E. The program has been qualifying the Portuguese Network of Museums through the promotion of good practices, skills enhancement, and the valorization of cultural heritage.
The 2025 competition had an initial allocation of one million euros. Following the evaluation, the total amount of support reached 1,008,760.29 euros, funding 40 projects with the potential to generate lasting impacts on museums and their territories.
