Approximately 500 students from Escola Básica José Maria dos Santos, in Pinhal Novo, experienced the Orienteering discipline on October 14th, in an initiative promoted by the Orienteering Sports Training Center of Escola Secundária de Palmela.

The activity, led by professor Daniel Pó in coordination with the Physical Education teachers of the basic school, included the participation of final-year students from the Professional Course of Sports Technician at Escola Secundária de Pinhal Novo, who acted as monitors.
Integrated into Physical Education classes, the initiative primarily involved students from the 5th and 6th grades, who completed various Orienteering courses within the school's map. For many, it was their first experience with the sport, while others had the opportunity to consolidate knowledge and skills.
Participants learned to interpret maps and basic navigation techniques, combining physical activity with learning and fostering autonomy, observation, and decision-making skills.
The experience was enhanced by the SportIdent electronic control and timing system, provided by Palmela Desporto and operated by the professional course students, bringing the activity closer to regular practice of the sport.
This event stood out for the collaboration between the Orienteering Sports Training Center of Escola Secundária de Palmela, Palmela Desporto, Escola Secundária de Pinhal Novo, and Escola Básica José Maria dos Santos, promoting physical activity and sports development in a school setting.
