The Freguesia of Santa Maria, São Pedro e Sobral da Lagoa celebrated its day in Óbidos on October 18th, with a solemn session honoring popular poets, distinguishing students for academic merit, and presenting a new transport vehicle.

The appreciation of popular poetry and the recognition of academic success marked the solemn session of the Freguesia Day of Santa Maria, São Pedro e Sobral da Lagoa, held on October 18th. The initiative gathered around 50 residents, with significant attendance from inhabitants of A-da-Gorda and families of the distinguished students. The ceremony was attended by councilors Bruno Silva and Samuel, representing the Óbidos Municipal Council.
A central moment was the presentation of the reissued book Trovas e Encantos – Poesia Popular da Freguesia de Santa Maria, São Pedro e Sobral da Lagoa, with five of the honored poets present. The challenge of preparing, for next year, a new publication to showcase more poems from local popular poets was also announced.
During the session, school merit diplomas were awarded to students from the Josefa de Óbidos School Grouping. The distinction was extended to several students per educational cycle, aiming to recognize equally all those who achieved equivalent results.
The initiative also allowed for the presentation of a new goods transport vehicle, acquired by the Parish Council with the support of the Óbidos Municipal Council to enhance services to the population. The Council is also awaiting the arrival of a new tractor, also acquired with municipal support.
Speeches highlighted the close work with residents and the coordination between the Parish Council and the Municipality in responding to the territory's needs. Special recognition was given to the Parish Council staff for their dedication and availability during the series of storms that affected the municipality this year.
