The Municipal Assembly Hall of Montijo hosted, on September 29, the presentation of the book «Coach Carlos Stars – Move like the Animals», authored by Carlos Barroca. The event brought together literature, sports, and a message of solidarity aimed at the youth.
The presentation of the work was led by César Santos, the book's editor. Also speaking was the president of the Montijo Municipal Chamber, Fernando Caria, who highlighted Carlos Barroca's career and his contribution to promoting and valuing basketball, stating that he "made basketball have the interest it has today". Fernando Caria also emphasized the connection between the book, the author's passion for sports, and the importance of passing that enthusiasm to new generations.
«Coach Carlos Stars – Move like the Animals» tells the story of five friends who, with the help of Coach Carlos and a special team of animal superstars, discover the importance of warming up, movement, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Through a fun narrative, the work aims to bring children closer to sports, particularly basketball, using animals and their movements as a simple and accessible way to stimulate physical activity and learning.
Carlos Barroca explained that the book has a solidarity aspect, with proceeds from sales in Portugal going to the Azores Commissioner for Childhood, aiming to support children and young people who lack access to sports opportunities. The former basketball coach and commentator also shared experiences from his professional career in 45 countries, where he frequently used animals and their movements to communicate with younger children, overcoming language barriers and encouraging sports practice.
«Move like the Animals» thus combines a story of adventure and friendship with a message encouraging sports participation, aiming to ensure more children and young people have access to sports. The event in Montijo showcased a work that blends a passion for basketball with the promotion of physical activity, team spirit, and solidarity.
