The free FoodConnect platform and app, a European project integrated with the environmental association Zero, is now operating in Moita with the aim of reducing food waste.

FoodConnect is a free platform and app for donating surplus food. It is a European project that integrates the environmental association Zero and aims to reduce food waste by connecting those with excess food to those who need it.
Any establishment with surplus food, from restaurants to supermarkets, including agricultural producers, among others, can create a free account at thefoodconnect.eu, describe the available food, and set a collection time. On the receiving end, any person or social organization can register as a beneficiary on the FoodConnect mobile app (available on Google Play and the App Store), check for available surplus in their area, and collect it directly from the donor.
This initiative prevents food fit for consumption from being wasted, directly supports people and families in situations of food vulnerability, contributes to national food waste reduction targets, and strengthens a more circular and solidarity-based economy.
Food-Connect is a project funded by the European Union, through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), under the LIFE Programme – Programme for Environment and Climate Action.
