The Lezíria do Tejo took a historic step in the transition to more sustainable mobility with the acquisition of 16 100% electric buses, intended for passenger public transport in the region.

The vehicle handover ceremony took place on June 26, in Santarém, and was attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy and the Secretary of State for Mobility, along with the Mayors of the 11 municipalities in the region.
These 16 vehicles represent a significant investment aimed at improving citizens' quality of life and strengthening the connection between the different territories of Lezíria do Tejo. The investment reinforces the region's commitment to greener and more efficient mobility.
The new fleet will enable the travel of over 710,000 km/year with zero emissions, resulting in a reduction of 760 tons of CO₂ per year. Over the next few years, Lezíria do Tejo plans to renew 146 vehicles, with the goal of having 75% of the fleet entirely new.
With a more modern, comfortable, and sustainable transport network, the region aims to bring people, businesses, schools, and services closer, reinforcing territorial cohesion and creating more opportunities for its residents.
