The Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto (FADEUP) held an Inclusive Dance Workshop on October 30th, bringing together approximately 40 students and faculty with nine individuals with disabilities.
The initiative, part of the Adapted Physical Activity area and in partnership with Popolomondo – Associação Cultural, provided an experience of movement, body expression, creativity, and sharing for all participants.
Throughout the workshop, participants explored dance as an accessible form of expression, aiming to create a space for encounter and interaction where each person could participate in their own way and discover new forms of communication.
The activity was led by international experts Saša Jovanović from Primorska University (Slovenia), and Madeleine Hackney from Emory University School of Medicine (USA).
The workshop facilitated reflection on the importance of inclusive physical and sports activity practices, demonstrating how dance can overcome barriers and bring people closer.
“
"Inclusive dance reminds us that movement does not have a single form, nor does body expression know limits defined by our differences. The real challenge is not to adapt people to dance, but to transform dance so that all people can be part of it."
“
"At FADEUP, we believe that inclusion should not just be a principle we defend, but an experience we provide and a practice we embrace daily."
