The walk, which began at 09:30 AM in Praça da República, followed the marked pedestrian route PR2 MFT – Rota das Antas de Rabuje. The route stood out for its scenic and archaeological richness, culminating in the return to the village. Participants also had the opportunity to visit the space “Monforte Sacro – 18th Century Tile Panels on the Life and Miracles of Saint Isabel”, in the Church of the Holy Spirit.
The initiative was supported by the Municipality of Monforte in preparing promotional material and dissemination, in route preparation, and in the specialized guidance of archaeologist Sérgio Batista, from the Municipal Archaeology Service. Batista shared knowledge about the history, the importance of the dolmens, and the archaeological vestiges of the region.
The Alentejo Walking Festival 2026 took place on the weekend of October 31st and November 1st, featuring 50 walks in various Alentejo municipalities. Organized for three consecutive years by the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo in partnership with Municipalities, the event aims to promote nature tourism, inviting participants to discover the region through its pedestrian routes, landscapes, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.
The festival offers an authentic and immersive perspective of the Alentejo, exploring lesser-known trails and allowing direct contact with local nature and culture.
