The Municipality of Porto Santo marked World Food Day with a talk on food and lifestyles, held today at 3:00 PM in the Municipal Auditorium.

The talk “Food and Lifestyles: Small choices, big benefits. Living better at all ages.”, open to the community, was well-attended at the Porto Santo Municipal Auditorium. The event brought together diverse audiences, including CACI, the Senior University, the CELFF Professional School, and the general community, for a moment of sharing, learning, and awareness about food, health, and sustainability.
A health professional from the Porto Santo Health Center participated in the session, addressing the importance of a balanced diet, adopting healthy lifestyle habits, disease prevention, and promoting well-being throughout life. The talk also included a focus on sustainable food, highlighting the value of local and seasonal products, reducing food waste, and making choices with a lower environmental impact.
In a Biosphere Reserve, sustainability is built through daily decisions. Food choices can contribute to people's health, the local economy, responsible resource use, and environmental protection. In an island territory like Porto Santo, with limited resources and the need to transport many products, it is crucial to promote a conscious relationship with consumption, encouraging responsible and sustainable practices.
This initiative aimed to reinforce the link between food, health, community, and sustainability, demonstrating that small daily choices can generate significant benefits for individuals and the shared territory.
