Following previous information and after the daily briefing with the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), an update has been issued regarding the expected weather conditions in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Periods of precipitation, at times heavy, are forecast, with greater incidence during Saturday night, October 31st, and Sunday morning, November 1st.
The following weather warnings have been issued: Orange Warning for the South Coast and Mountainous Regions, between 00:00 and 09:00 on Sunday, November 1st. Yellow Warning for the North Coast and Porto Santo, between 21:00 today and 12:00 on Sunday.
The previously issued self-protection recommendations remain valid and should be adopted by the population. Anticipating risks and adopting responsible behaviors are fundamental to minimizing the impacts of adverse weather conditions. Meteorological information can be consulted at www.ipma.pt.
Based on the predicted conditions, effects such as the possible fall of branches or trees, slippery road surfaces due to the formation of water sheets, occurrence of floods in urban areas, and drainage difficulties in urban systems, especially in historically more vulnerable locations, are expected. Landslides of retaining walls or slopes may also occur.
The Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM reminds that adopting appropriate behaviors can minimize the impact of these effects. It is recommended to clear storm drains, secure loose structures, exercise extra caution when moving in wooded areas, adapt behavior to the predicted weather conditions, and respect any prohibitions and restrictions. Defensive driving, reducing speed, and paying special attention to possible water sheets on roads are also advised. Avoid crossing flooded areas to prevent being swept away.
The public should stay informed about meteorological updates and follow the guidance from Civil Protection and Security Forces on social media and applications.
