The VI Food Week, promoted by the Municipality of Funchal, took place at Largo da Restauração and registered an attendance of approximately 6,000 people. The announcement was made by the president of the Câmara Municipal do Funchal, Jorge Carvalho, who attended, along with councilwoman Helena Leal, one of the editions of the “Sopa Comunitária” (Community Soup).
The initiative featured three entities preparing regional soups: SocioHabitaFunchal, presenting Caldo Verde; the Centro Comunitário do Funchal, with Sopa de Trigo; and the Associação A Biqueira, with Caldo de Bico. A total of 900 soup dishes were served.
According to Jorge Carvalho, the main objective of this initiative is to highlight the importance of adopting healthy eating habits, consuming regional products, and combating food waste.
As part of Funchal's Food Strategy – SEMEAR –, the VI Food Week offered a diverse program, including lectures, workshops, showcookings, and educational activities aimed at various audiences, from children and young people to adults. The program sought to raise awareness about the importance of healthy, balanced, and sustainable nutrition.
The closing of the Food Week is scheduled for tomorrow, September 26, with an intergenerational physical activity and a SEMEAR Picnic, to be held at Parque de Santa Catarina, requiring prior registration.
