The São Martinho Gymnasium, part of the Funchal Municipal Council, marks its quarter-century milestone on October 8th. For over two decades, it has promoted sports and healthy lifestyles, contributing to the well-being and autonomy of Madeira's population.
To commemorate the occasion, a celebratory program has been organized, running from October 6th to 9th. The events include a range of sports activities, social gatherings, and debates focusing on the importance of lifelong physical activity.
The festivities began on Tuesday, October 6th, with a Mega Physical Activity Class at 9:30 AM, followed by a lecture on the benefits of exercise for seniors, delivered by Professor Rebeca, at 10:30 AM. The afternoon featured a Pilates class at 2:15 PM and a Mega Meditation Class at 3:15 PM.
On October 7th, the morning will be dedicated to further physical activities. In the afternoon, at 2:30 PM, the Assembly Hall of the Funchal Municipal Council will host the conference “25 years of the São Martinho Gymnasium”. The event will feature contributions from Professor Pedro Serrão, Professor Marília Santos, Dr. Fernando Jardim, Dr. Marco Gonçalves, and a gymnasium user.
The opening session of this conference will be presided over by Helena Leal, the councilor responsible for Sports.
October 8th, the exact anniversary date, will be marked by a social lunch. The celebrations will conclude on October 9th with a Mega Walk and Stretching Class, starting at 9:15 AM between Caminho do Teleférico and Praça do Município.
