The town of Vouzela was the venue, on September 29th, for the 6th edition of UP Território. The initiative, promoted by the Polytechnic University of Viseu (UPV) in collaboration with the Municipality of Vouzela, the Association for Development and Research of Viseu (ADIV), the Intermunicipal Community Viseu Dão Lafões, and other partners, focused on the theme “Commitments for Sustainability – Territories that Care: Health, Longevity, and Well-being in the Community”.
The event brought together representatives from various institutions, including local authorities, higher education, and the social sector, with the aim of sharing experiences and debating the challenges and opportunities associated with active aging and the promotion of quality of life in territories.
A key moment of the session was the presentation of the Longevity Observatory. This project, resulting from a collaboration protocol between the Municipality of Vouzela and the Polytechnic University of Viseu, aims to monitor the demographic and social evolution of the municipality, identify needs and trends, and generate information to support the definition of strategies for an aging population.
The Observatory will be developed within the framework of the Local Social Development Contract (CLDS) 5G and will include actions such as demographic monitoring, the study of living conditions of the senior population, analysis of issues like poverty, exclusion, fragility, and mental health, as well as the active involvement of older adults in community initiatives.
The UP Território program also included a round table on “Active and healthy aging: challenges and opportunities,” which featured participants from the Municipality of Vouzela, the Polytechnic University of Viseu, the CCDR Centro, and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vouzela.
