The Funchal City Council is holding its second Medical Prophylaxis Campaign of 2026 for dogs and cats, offering essential free services between October 24 and November 21 across all parishes.

The initiative, aimed at animals over three months old, begins on October 24 at the Parish Councils of Santo António and Monte. This will be followed by the parish of Sé on October 28; Imaculado Coração de Maria and São Martinho on October 31; São Roque and Santa Luzia on November 7; São Gonçalo and Santa Maria Maior on November 14; and finally, São Pedro on November 21.
Participation is free for residents of the Funchal municipality but requires prior registration at the respective Parish Council, with limited spots available. The campaign provides rabies vaccination (valid for 3 years), microchip implantation for electronic identification, registration in SIAC (Companion Animal Information System), internal deworming, issuance of a Health Booklet, and licensing where applicable.
To ensure safety, dogs must be presented with a leash or a functional muzzle. Dangerous or potentially dangerous dogs require both restraint methods, with a leash no longer than one meter. Cats must be transported in a suitable carrier.
Animal owners must present their citizen card or identity card, tax identification number (NIF), and the animal's health booklet, if they already have one.
Through this campaign, the Municipality of Funchal reaffirms its commitment to public health, disease prevention, and animal welfare, continuing to invest in support measures for the Animal Cause and encouraging responsible pet ownership.
