The Order of Pharmacists (OF) hosted the first “Farmacêuticos no Feed” meeting last Friday, October 2nd, at its headquarters in Lisbon. The initiative brought together pharmacists active on social media and interested in health communication, aiming to foster reflection and experience sharing on their digital positioning.
Joana Nobre, a pharmacist and science communicator, opened the session, highlighting the opportunity to strengthen pharmacists' social media presence and their value as credible information sources. She emphasized the importance of communicating science and health accessibly while maintaining scientific rigor and audience proximity.
Professor Joana Santos Silva from ISEG followed, focusing on strategies to enhance digital communication effectiveness. Topics included audience definition, building a coherent digital identity, and adapting messages to different platforms, stressing the need for a consistent and strategic online presence.
Helder Mota Filipe, president of the OF, closed the event, noting its importance in connecting the profession with new communication spaces. He argued that increased social media presence must be paired with professional responsibility, particularly regarding information accuracy, credibility, and ethical standards.
The “Farmacêuticos no Feed” initiative plans to continue, aiming to create a space for reflection and training for pharmacists communicating online. This first meeting identified opportunities and challenges, laying the groundwork for a community better equipped to communicate health credibly and responsibly in the digital space.
