The Green Rail Pass can be used on the urban services of CP – Comboios de Portugal in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto starting tomorrow, September 27, 2026. The measure, enshrined in a decree that came into effect today, aims to allow significant savings for families and simplify transport tickets, encouraging a reduction in car use.
For a monthly cost of 20 euros, passengers can travel on all CP lines, from north to south of the country, with the exception of the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades (1st Class). In the Lisbon and Porto Metropolitan Areas, using only the Green Rail Pass instead of the intermodal Navegante (Lisbon) or Andante (Porto) passes represents a halving of the monthly cost, especially for those commuting from areas outside these metropolitan regions.
The pass's extension to CP's urban lines in Lisbon and Porto, with Fertagus being operationalized for future inclusion, is another initiative by the Government to support families and promote sustainable transport. Since its creation in October 2024, the Green Rail Pass has already sold 1.4 million passes.
With an estimated annual financial impact of 1.5 million euros, this expansion is part of an integrated mobility policy. The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, stated, "It is a decisive step, particularly at this moment, to reinforce the use of sustainable public transport, for tariff simplification, and a clear commitment to a people-centered public transport policy."
