Over 160 4th-grade students from three Lisbon schools learned to read food labels in seven sessions promoted by UCC Sete Rios and the Dietetics and Nutrition Service throughout October.

The cycle, which concluded today at the EB1 António Nobre School, aimed to teach children to look beyond the packaging and understand the content of the food they consume. The sessions were led by nutritionist Maria Pimenta, with the presence of nurse Manuel Santos and nurse Maria da Conceição Cardoso, both from UCC Sete Rios.
With a strong practical component, students worked in groups to analyze food product packaging, discovering unexpected ingredients and learning to identify key label elements. They also used a decoder to interpret nutritional information, taking home a copy for daily use and to share with their families.
This initiative by ULS Santa Maria reinforces its commitment to promoting health in schools and food literacy from childhood, supported by the community outreach work of UCC Sete Rios and the technical expertise of the Dietetics and Nutrition Service.
