ISEL Student Wins Judo Bronze at European University Championships

Daniel Viegas, a student-athlete from ISEL, secured the bronze medal in Judo, in the men's -60 kg category, at the 2026 European University Combat Sports Championships held in Tirana, Albania.

The university athlete, representing the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (UPL), claimed a spot on the European podium after a high-level competitive performance. This achievement reinforces UPL's presence among the top university athletes in the sport.
ISEL was also represented by João Dias, who achieved 7th place in Judo. The championship brought together some of Europe's best student-athletes.
The UPL delegation included six student-athletes from various schools within the institution. In addition to the ISEL students' results, Laura Santos from ESELx also stood out, obtaining 5th place in Karate.
The Polytechnic University of Lisbon, with the support of the Social Action Services (SASUPL), continues to promote and support student participation in national and international competitions, recognizing sport as a fundamental component of the academic experience and personal development.
