Today, October 27, the ULS Amadora/Sintra marks World Occupational Therapy Day, reinforcing its commitment to person-centered practice and valuing the active participation of each user.

The date, promoted by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists under the theme “Participation Matters”, underscores the dignity, choices, and right of each individual to actively participate in occupations that give meaning to their lives.
At ULS Amadora/Sintra, Occupational Therapy is provided by a team of 19 occupational therapists. Of these, eight work in the Mental Health Department, nine in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and two in Primary Healthcare, reflecting the institution's comprehensive response to community needs.
The work of these professionals focuses on empowering individuals to resume and transform their lives, promoting biopsychosocial well-being through engagement in meaningful occupations. Occupational Therapy recognizes the fundamental role of daily activities in health and quality of life, valuing each user's experiences, skills, and aspirations.
This year's theme highlights the importance of active participation in the therapeutic process and in shaping one's life project. It is through engagement in meaningful daily occupations that individuals develop capabilities, exercise autonomy, and take an active role in decisions affecting their well-being.
The institution strives to identify and overcome barriers, creating opportunities for full and meaningful participation in family, community, and society, respecting interests, needs, and potential. The goal is to promote inclusion, accessibility, and the well-being of every user.
