General crime in Amadora decreased by 7.72% up to September 30, 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, as presented at the Municipal Security Council meeting.

Amadora recorded a 7.72% decrease in general crime up to September 30, 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. This information was presented during the meeting of the Amadora Municipal Security Council, held on October 8, 2026, in the main hall of the Recreios da Amadora.
Sub-intendent Adriano Magalhães, Commander of the Public Security Police (PSP) in the Amadora Division, highlighted the continuous decrease in crime over recent years. According to the RASI and Pordata/INE data from 2025, Amadora ranks 13th among the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area for criminal reports per 100,000 inhabitants. This data aims to demystify prejudices associated with the municipality, which has approximately 171,500 inhabitants spread over 23 km².
Adriano Magalhães attributed the crime reduction to the joint work of the PSP with local partners. The Mayor of Amadora, Vítor Ferreira, presided over the meeting and reaffirmed the ongoing support for the PSP, emphasizing the importance of security and proximity to citizens. The municipality has provided four new Seat Leon vehicles to the PSP, an investment of around €120,650, and plans to provide six more by the end of the year.
The mayor also recalled the rehabilitation projects for the police stations in Mina and Reboleira, a commitment of approximately four million euros, following the recent reopening of the Damaia station. He also informed about the technological upgrade of the existing 141 video surveillance cameras, with plans to install an additional 59, to improve body movement detection and police response.
The partnership between the PSP and the municipality at the Espaço Okazo, dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence, was also mentioned. Located in the former premises of the Alfornelos police station and renovated with municipal support, the space operates from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM with a specialized PSP team and collaborates with the municipality's Social Intervention Division. Adriano Magalhães expressed the desire for the space to operate 24/7 in the future.
The commander of the Municipal Police, Luís Carvalho, highlighted the increased activity of this force, which comprises 39 officers, 17 vehicles, and 4 bicycles. In environmental matters, over 1,000 inspections were carried out in 2026, resulting in more than 200 administrative offense reports. The Municipal Police conducted over 350 establishment inspections, leading to more than 100 reports, and opened 519 cases in 2025. Over 250 individuals experiencing homelessness were identified and assisted in 2026.
Luís Carvalho also emphasized the success of cycle patrols in community policing, indicating this will be a reinforced focus. The commitment to the safety of Amadora's population is a priority for the municipality, which will continue efforts to consolidate the partnership work in the territory.
The next meeting of the Municipal Security Council is scheduled for December 3rd, at 3:00 PM, in the Rogério Rodrigues Auditorium, located at the Fernando Piteira Santos Municipal Library.
