On October 8th, the Municipality of Peniche participated in the national ceremony for the Green Flag Eco-Schools 2026 Awards, held at Air Base No. 1 in Sintra. The event, organized by the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE), brought together thousands of children, young people, teachers, and municipal representatives from across the country, celebrating 30 years of the Eco-Schools Program in Portugal.
The Municipality of Peniche was accompanied by representatives from five educational establishments in the municipality, also awarded the Green Flag Eco-Schools: D. Luís de Ataíde Basic School, Peniche Secondary School, Atouguia da Baleia Basic School (EBAB), Atouguia da Baleia School Center (CEAB), and Ferrel Basic School. The awarding of these flags recognizes the work developed by educational communities in promoting environmental best practices.
Furthermore, two schools from the municipality had their projects recognized nationally. The Atouguia da Baleia Basic School received an Honorable Mention for the "Return Box" project, and the Atouguia da Baleia School Center won 3rd Prize in the 1st Tier for the "The Air I Breathe" project, as part of the "JogAR - The Air Game" challenge.
These distinctions are a source of great pride for Peniche, demonstrating that environmental education is built daily through small gestures, innovative projects, and the involvement of the entire school community. The Municipality of Peniche congratulates all the distinguished schools, students, teachers, and operational assistants who contributed to these results, reinforcing the commitment to an increasingly sustainable municipality.
