The Municipal Chamber of Castanheira de Pera has continued its fiscal policy of support for families and the local economy, approving the maintenance of municipal taxes for 2027. The measures, approved in a meeting on September 11 and ratified by the Municipal Assembly on September 23, 2026, aim to alleviate the tax burden on citizens and businesses in the municipality.
Regarding direct taxes, the Municipality maintains the variable participation in IRS at 0%, a measure implemented in 2026, allowing the entire municipal share to remain in taxpayers' disposable income. Likewise, the IMI (Municipal Property Tax) rate remains at 0.30%, the legally admissible minimum rate, to avoid tax burdens higher than necessary for property-owning families.
The IMI Familiar program continues to support families by applying fixed deductions provided by law based on the number of dependents. This measure applies to properties intended for the primary and permanent residence of the taxpayer or their family, recognizing the importance of supporting families with children in a differentiated manner.
Additionally, the extension for two more years of the IMI exemption for urban properties with a taxable value not exceeding 125,000 euros, as provided for in the Tax Benefits Statute, has been decided. This action aims to continue supporting housing and reduce tax burdens.
In terms of supporting economic activity, the Municipality of Castanheira de Pera has opted not to impose derrama on the taxable profits of companies operating in the municipality. This decision seeks to create a more favorable fiscal context, encouraging investment and job creation.
Since 2022, the Municipality has waived over 1 million euros in municipal revenue through these fiscal measures. The Municipal Executive considers that, in low-density territories like Castanheira de Pera, fiscal policy should also be an instrument of social cohesion, encouraging population retention, and promoting economic activity.
