The Municipality of Guarda was recognized with three distinctions in the categories of Sport, Youth, and Free Theme, during the IV National Congress of the Social City, held in Lagoa and Portimão on October 1st and 2nd.

Within the framework of the Municipal Excellence Awards 2026, presented by Cidade Social, Guarda was honored for municipal projects in the areas of sport, youth, and environmental sustainability. The distinctions were awarded to the projects: “Aquatic Swimming Program for 1st Cycle Students of the Municipality of Guarda”, “Mobility for River Beaches – Free Transport for All”, and an environmental project focused on water reuse for green space irrigation.
These awards recognize initiatives that promote physical activity, inclusive sports, healthy lifestyles, youth associations, and environmental sustainability. The recognition highlights the Municipality's work towards quality of life, inclusion, and the development of the county, reinforcing its commitment to innovative policies that meet the population's needs.
The Municipal Excellence Award, established in 2024, aims to highlight the best practices of Portuguese municipalities. The distinguished initiatives will be included in the Observatory of the Dynamics of Portuguese Municipalities, serving as benchmarks for other towns. Participation also facilitated the sharing of experiences and the identification of new solutions to territorial challenges.
