The Serra da Estrela DOP Lamb Festival returns to the parish of Carrapichana, in Celorico da Beira, on October 24th and 25th. The event aims to exalt and enshrine the Bordaleira Serra da Estrela lamb, which is intrinsically linked to the identity of the Serra da Estrela region.
Organized by the municipality of Celorico da Beira, in conjunction with the Parish Council of Carrapichana, Estrelacoop, and Ancose, the festival is establishing itself as the region's leading autumn event, combining lamb with tradition, culture, music, sports, crafts, tastings, and entertainment.
This year's edition features a diverse program with novelties and the artist José Malhoa as the headliner. Musical entertainment includes concertinas, folklore, fanfares, a show with artist Safira, and ambient music.
Program highlights include the Grande Rota da Transumância (Stage 10), lectures, workshops, the Craft and Regional Products Fair, the “Caminhada Rota do Borrego” (Lamb Route Walk), the Livestock Show, Traditional Games, and the V Meeting of Serra da Estrela Shepherds.
Visitors will have numerous opportunities to taste lamb and other regional products at the Restoration Space – Chefes Criativos – Sabores com Tradição and at “Taste On Fire”, prepared by chefs António Santos, Flávio Silva, and Sandra Pimenta.
The festival invites visitors to the Capital of Serra da Estrela Cheese to enjoy the flavor of lamb and other excellent local products, such as Serra da Estrela Cheese, and to marvel at the beauty of the mountain landscapes adorned in their golden autumn hues.
In parallel, the Gastronomic Week runs from October 26th to November 1st at participating restaurants within the Demarcated Region of Borrego Serra da Estrela, offering lamb prepared in various ways.
