The municipality of Silves celebrates World Tourism Day 2026 with a program of initiatives dedicated to carob, titled "Workshops and Tastings Out of the Shell," taking place throughout the month of October.

The October program includes three distinct proposals inviting the public to discover and experience different ways of valuing this local product, through art, liqueur tasting, and gastronomy.
The first workshop, "Carob with… Art!," will be held on October 10th, between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM, at the Fábrica do Inglês in Silves. Led by Manoli Ortiz de la Torre, the activity proposes an ecoprint experience, involving dyeing carob leaves on paper and collaboratively creating a canvas using the same technique, which will be integrated into the exhibition "Carob – memories of a life." During the cooking break, participants can visit the exhibition and the Cork Museum. Registration is open until October 7th.
On October 15th, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Bagamel's facilities in Silves will host the experience "Carob with… liqueur!." Led by Vanessa Pereira, the initiative includes a commented tasting of the company's liqueurs, an explanation of the production process, and a tour of the facilities. Registration is open until October 11th.
The third proposal, "Carob with… bread!," will take place on October 24th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Museu da Serra in São Marcos da Serra. Guided by Renato Marques, this workshop teaches participants how to make carob bread in a wood-fired oven, including a tiborna tasting. Registration is open until October 17th.
Participation in the workshops is free, subject to mandatory prior registration via an online form, where general participation conditions can be consulted. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the available capacity.
The World Tourism Day 2026 commemoration program also includes, during October, November, and December, the "Creative Carob Workshop," led by partner Espaço JALI, with activities for various age groups.
The workshop program will continue in November with new activities currently being prepared. The commemorations, promoted by the Municipality of Silves, extend until the end of the year, highlighting the carob's connection to the territory and showcasing associated knowledge and agents. The initiative aims to showcase the richness of the municipality's tourist resources.
