The V VilaNova Chamber Music Festival is being held in Monchique between October 17 and November 7, with free admission, presenting concerts of Portuguese guitar, cello, classical guitar, and lyrical singing.

The festival, which features four concerts, brings together different instruments on different days. The October events will take place at the Igreja Matriz de Monchique, while the November 7 concert will be held in the Manuel Martins hall, at the Parish Council (Junta de Freguesia).
Ricardo Martins opens the festival on October 17 with Portuguese guitar. He will be followed by Seibas Gamboa (cello) and Juan León (classical guitar) on October 24. The month concludes on October 31 with Michele Tomaz and Denise Yamaoca in a two-voice lyrical singing performance.
On the final day, November 7, the stage will be open to amateur participants, students, or professionals who play chamber music. Registration is by SMS to the mobile number 925 130 231.
The festival began five years ago under the name VilaNova, alluding to Monchique's former designation mentioned in a decree by D. José I in 1773.
“

"This festival brings to the Algarve an opportunity to enjoy high-quality chamber music in a space with excellent acoustic conditions, which is our Mother Church. This musical genre developed in Europe from the 17th century, reached its peak in the Baroque and Classical periods, and allows for great proximity between performers and listeners."

José Gonçalo Duarte · President of the Monchique Parish Council
The festival is organized by the Monchique Parish Council (Junta de Freguesia), with the support of the Parish (Paróquia). Technical direction is by Svetlana Bakushina.
